Austin Engine
The Austin FX4 taxi was first introduced in 1958. This famous vehicle remained in continuous production with various modifications, including seven different engines, for 39 years. This wasnt because it was such a fantastic vehicle it had many shortcomings- but because neither Austin nor Mann and Overton could find the money to replace it.
Ford
The 2.7 Nissan diesel engine was replaced in 2002 with the universally disliked 2.4 litre Ford Duratorq engine. This engine was only used in the TX2 taxi.
Nissan
The famous 2.7 Nissan diesel engine was used in London taxis from 1989 until 2002. Fairway, Fairway Driver and TX1 taxis all used the london cab driver's favourite taxi engine.
Rover
The Austin taxi engine was replaced with the 2.2 Rover engine in 1982. Later cabs had a 2.5 Rover engine installed. This engine was used until 1989.
