Andrew Brown from the Barbecue Cab Company came to us with this project to incorporate 2 ‘Big Green Egg’ barbecues into a taxi. We recommend the newly available TX1 taxis that are coming off the road in London due to the recent change in legislation. They are cheaper and more readily available than the older Fairway Driver taxis but still have the classic taxi cachet!
Using a Fairway Driver taxi for the project would have not been feasible financially so Andrew chose the TX1 taxi as a base vehicle. We had the vehicle structually surveyed by an auto engineer to facilitate Andrew insuring the vehicle. Andrew asked us to match the paintwork on the vehicle to the colour of the egg barbecues to give the vehicle a complete corporate feel.
We cut the back off of the taxi and installed a box section table inside the passenger area to support the barbecues. We also mounted the oak worktop and shaped it to fit.
Andrew wanted 2 removable preparation tables which we fabricated for him. The floor was lined with aluminium checker plate.
The interior of a TX1 taxi is very spacious once all of the taxi furniture has been replaced. This is a view of the taxi before the barbecues were fitted.
